Serre de l'Ane

La Charce

About

Discovered in 1977, this is an exceptional site for geologists. The cliff has continuously recorded the history of our planet for 5 million years, representing an extraordinary testimony.

It marks the junction between two geological periods: the Valanginian (-140 to -134 million years ago) and the Hauterivian (-134 to -131 million years ago), both of which represent slices of time on the scale of the Earth that recorded a number of geological events.

The Espace Naturel Sensible du Serre de l'Ane was classified ENS in 2012 for its major geological interest.

The Département de la Drôme and the Commune de la Charce have worked together to preserve, enhance and open up the site to the public by creating a geological interpretation trail.
