Parent walkers, are you looking for an agreeable outing in the Diois which your children will enjoy?

Whereas you may think of walking as a therapeutic activity through which you can take exercise and forget the daily stress of life, your children may not always see it that way!

For the sake of family peace, between those who wish to do something and those who remain to be convinced, we suggest our set of easy outings, not too long and punctuated with recreational pauses to satisfy the whole family. So, here we go with an overview of paths which will please everyone and help you let off steam, and build up the calf muscles of young and old.

‘The Who am I’ of the Sucettes de Borne

Sucettes de Borne

The wide path on the banks of a stream leads to these narrow and elegant blades of rock which erosion has sculpted into different shapes. Use your imagination to look closely at mother nature and guess what you can see in these shapes.

Meet the tiny inhabitants of the Marais des Bouligons

Marais des Bouligons

 

This marsh is the largest wetland area in the Drôme and remains unique in a mountain context.

Laid across the reed beds, a raised wooden pathway helps you discover this environment whilst keeping your feet dry. This is a paradise for dragon flies, butterflies, amphibians and birds so don’t forget your binoculars!

The geological labyrinth of the Claps listed site

Le Claps

The landslide of the Pic de Luc has created a spectacular and chaotic maze which you can pretend to get lost in.

The Saut de la Drôme waterfall contributes its freshness.

The ‘Cabanons de vigne’ trail at Châtillon-en-Diois

The ‘cabanons’ (field barns) are part of Châtillon-en-Diois agricultural and landscape heritage. There are seventy of them, dotted around one of the highest wine growing areas of France.

The ‘Autonière’ resurgence at Aucelon

Where water emerges from the rock

You are immediately rewarded with a view of the hilltop village perched on its narrow promontory, worthy of a postcard, whilst the path zigzags down to the ruins of a water mill set in a patch of grass amidst centuries old trees.

The Autonière resurgence, which spews out it’s white water whenever there is heavy rain, is worth the visit and it’s also worth including the ruins of the castle.

Young mountaineer walk at the Col des Prêtres, Grimone

A circuit which has the definite advantage for young legs of starting at 1318 metres, quickly gaining height and then feeling you are in a mountain environment.

An amazing panoramic view over the cliffs of the Vercors and the highest peaks in the Drôme.

The lavender of the Roanne Valley

‘Gentle France, dear land of my childhood’

Take in the calming odour of our grandmothers’ linen cupboards, to the sound of the cicadas, between fields and ‘garrigue’, between the village and the Montagne d’Angèle, never losing the Provencal feel. Feast your eyes on blue lavender between mid-June and late July.

It’s a glide. On the vulture trail

Vautours

Serving as an entry point into the ‘Hauts Plateaux du Vercors’, this circus of impressive cliffs is well known for the successful reintroduction of the Griffon vulture, which we can learn all about, thanks to the interpretation panels on the trail.

The Drôme is a wild river, starting at Valdrôme

Balade à Valdrôme

One of the last wild rivers in Europe, this fun walk is a natural choice if you want to recharge your batteries in an unspoilt natural setting.

Following all that effort, the banks of the river are ideal for a moment of relaxation amongst the well-polished pebbles.
